Objective 10
Describe
research on the split brain.
Explanation:
A split brain is a condition caused from surgery that isolates the brains two hemispheres by cutting fibers in the corpus callosum. Usually the left half of your field of vision goes to the right hemisphere of the brain and the right half of your field of vision goes to the left hemisphere of the brain which controls speech. Information received by either hemisphere is transmitted to the other across the corpus callosum, but when a person has a split brain the sharing doesn't take place.

Example:
In my textbook, Psychology Tenth Edition in Modules, Rodger Sperry and Michael Gazzaniga did an experiment with the split brain. In the experiment they asked people to stare at a dot as the word he.art was flashed on the screen. The participants with split brains say they saw the word art. When asked to point with her left hand at what they saw they pointed to the word he. This gives a good example on how the split brain works.
