Objective 8
Describe the
process of neural transmission.
Explanation:
Our bodies neural information system's building blocks are neurons or nerve cells. Each neuron has a cell body, dendrites, and axons. The dendrites receive messages from other cells (listen) and the axons pass messages away from the cell body to other neurons, muscles, or glands (speak). The axons have terminal branches that connect the neuron with other cells. Neurons transmit messages when stimulated by signals from our senses or when triggered by chemical signals form other neurons. A neuron fires a action potential which is a electrical charge that travels down the axon. To trigger action potential there needs to be a certain level of stimulation called a threshold. The neurons action is an all or none response. The meeting point between neurons is a synapse. It is the junction between the axon tip of the sending neuron and the dendrite of the receiving neuron. Neurotransmitters cross the synaptic gaps between neurons. Neural transmission is really important in our bodies because it takes messages where they need to go.

This picture is a good example of the different parts of a neuron. Neurons are really important in neural transmission. It shows what my explanation said.
