Objective 25
Describe the
therapeutic concepts of therapeutic neutrality, free association,
interpretation, and transference.
Explanation:
Therapeutic neutrality is when a therapist listens to a patient. The therapist does not judge them or their actions. They practice active listening and have a positive attitude. Free association is a method of exploring the unconscious in which a person relaxes and says whatever comes to mind no matter how trivial or embarrassing. Interpretation is the analyst's opinion of dream meanings, resistances, and other significant behaviors and events in order to help the patient. Transference is the patient's transfer to the analyst of emotions linked with other relationships. It gives people insight into current relationships.
