Objective 7
Construct an
experiment from a given hypothesis and identify the independent and dependent
variables.
Explanation:
My experiment is going to be about how students perform on a test (grade) and how much they eat for breakfast. My hypothesis or educated guess is that the more a student eats for breakfast the better they will perform on a test. My independent variable or the variable that I will manipulate is how much each student eats for breakfast before taking the test. My dependent variable or the variable that depends on the independent variable will be how the students perform on the test (grade).

Example:
Right now in my Advanced Biology Class I am doing a semester long research project. It is about antibacterial soap and regular soap. I am wanting to figure out if antibacterial soap really kills more bacteria than regular soap. My hypothesis was that antibacterial soap will kill more bacteria than regular soap. My independent variable is the type of soap I use either being antibacterial or regular. My dependent variable is how much bacteria grows.

Example:
This picture shows an experiment about how water makes plants grow. The hypothesis could be the more water a plant gets the higher it will grow. The independent variable would be the amount of water given to the plant. The dependent variable would be how high the plant grew.
